James A. Leach, chair­man of the National Endow­ment for the Human­i­ties, was the guest speaker at the Wes­ley Col­lege spring com­mence­ment on May 5.

Mem­ber­ship in Wes­ley College’s Ath­letic Hall of Fame expanded from 96 to 110 when 14 newly-elected mem­bers were inducted in a cer­e­mony on Fri­day, Octo­ber 12 at the Schwartz Cen­ter for the Arts.

To be on a cam­pus these days is to wit­ness a col­lege more inte­grated than most in this coun­try: nation­ally, 14 per­cent of col­lege stu­dents are African Amer­i­can; Wesley’s minor­ity pop­u­la­tion well exceeds that. That wasn’t always the case, as alum­nae Glo­ria James ’73, the Rev­erend Char­lotte Nichols ’73 and Peggi (Young) Wat­son ’73 well know.

Since 2005, Wes­ley College’s hon­ors pro­gram has been a sym­bol for out­stand­ing scholas­tic prowess and per­sis­tence, nur­tur­ing a group of stu­dents who excel amongst their peers in their aca­d­e­mic accom­plish­ments at Wes­ley. In seven years, enroll­ment has tripled in size. Incom­ing stu­dents must now be placed on a wait­ing list to join the program.

Wes­ley Col­lege won the Cor­po­ra­tion of the Year Award dur­ing the Cen­tral Delaware Cham­ber of Commerce’s Excel­lence in Busi­ness Awards Din­ner on June 28, 2012. The event also rec­og­nized excel­lence in small busi­ness, out­stand­ing part­ner­ship and the Lead­er­ship Cen­tral Delaware Class of 2012.

Wes­ley Col­lege is offer­ing two new majors for stu­dents to choose from for the 2012–13 aca­d­e­mic year.

In March of 2012, Wes­ley Col­lege Direc­tor of Admis­sions Art Jacobs took his leave and retired after 22 years of ded­i­cated work in the Admis­sions Office.
