For Lance Balder­son ’61 , the unex­pect­ed high­light of his career hap­pened about three years ago when he received a let­ter from the Philadel­phia Muse­um of Art. Balder­son dis­missed it as just anoth­er solic­i­ta­tion from anoth­er muse­um seek­ing mem­ber­ship dues. But there was some­thing dif­fer­ent about this let­ter. Indeed, the world-renowned gallery want­ed some­thing, but it wasn’t mon­ey. It want­ed one of his works.

Dur­ing the Junior Col­lege Ath­let­ic Alum­ni Brunch at Home­com­ing Reunion Week­end this year on Oct. 8, for­mer coach­es Bob Andrus and Jim Went­worth were both pre­sent­ed with Life­time Wes­ley Soci­ety Awards which rec­og­nizes indi­vid­u­als and orga­ni­za­tions who believe in the mis­sion of Wes­ley Col­lege.



Winning One For Ben

For the past cou­ple of years, Ben has been one of the first stu­dents I see in the morn­ing and one of last I see in the after­noon at my job as a sci­ence teacher at Dover High School. Though I haven’t had him as a stu­dent since ninth grade Hon­ors Biol­o­gy, his big blue back­pack full of his base­ball equip­ment always sat in my class­room – until last Octo­ber.

In a cer­e­mo­ny held on Oct. 7 at the Schwartz Cen­ter for the Arts in down­town Dover, Wes­ley Col­lege induct­ed 14 new mem­bers into the school’s Ath­let­ic Hall of Fame.
