Class of ’60

Barbara Harris married after her first year at Wesley, and chose not to return to finish her degree. She and her husband had four sons, John, Don, Ron, and Tom. Barbara sadly reports that two of her sons have passed away from lung cancer: John in 2010 and Ron in 2009. She has 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, the youngest being a girl born in January 2013. She wishes to say hello to her classmates and says that Wesley will always remain in her heart.

Class of ’63

Rosemarie (Gimber) Adamietz reports, that she and her husband, Helmut, moved to New Kensington, Pa. (a suburb of Pittsburgh) in 2007 to be closer to their son and his family. Rosemarie retired in 2002 after 18 years at IMS Health as a project manager in the International Division. Prior to that, she spent 19 years at GlaxoSmithKline, in various positions, starting as a secretary and ending as an international market research analyst. Helmut also retired in 2002 after more than 40 years in the printing business. She writes, “We still miss living in the Philly area, but wouldn’t give up being close to our grandchildren and participating in all their activities. I would like to remind classmates that our 50th Class Reunion will be Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 4–6, and I encourage everyone to attend. There will be a variety of activities during the weekend. Check our class page on the Wesley website at: www.weare.wesley.edu/1963 for the scheduled events and check periodically thereafter for updates. If you haven’t been back to Wesley for awhile, you’re in for a big surprise. Dover is no longer the single-movietheater, sleepy little town it was in the early 60s and Wesley is no longer the small junior college we attended. Come back to Wesley and reconnect with classmates, relive some of the old memories and make some new ones. If you have any questions, feel free to contact one of us on the committee. Hope to see you in October!”

Class of 1963 Reunion Committee:
Rosie Gimber Adamietz (radamietz@comcast.net)

Lois Butterworth DeFreyre (loisdef@aol.com)

Keith W. Gabbett (gabbettkeithw@hotmail.com)

Ellen Pennypacker Jackson (ellenpenny1@aol.com)

R. Jim Jones (rjjclj@yahoo.com)

Keith Gabbett writes, “The Class of 1963 50th Reunion is coming up this fall! How can that be? I am looking forward to seeing and getting reacquainted with former classmates. Wesley was the start of my college education and I will always remember those first two years.” After graduating from Wesley, Keith continued his college education at American University. He then spent 27 good years working with Swiss Bank Corporation in various human resources areas and moved to a Japanese company to work with expatriates. Keith appreciates that both positions gave him the opportunity to travel abroad. Recently he and his wife Dorothy have been taking bus trips throughout the western and northeastern parts of the United States, enjoying the country and the travel experience. In the colder seasons, the couple heads for one of the Caribbean islands or takes a relaxing cruise. He writes, “Retirement is great.”

Ellen (Pennypacker) Jackson is happily anticipating the 50th Reunion of the Class of ’63 Oct. 4–6. She regrets being unable to come back to Wesley for past reunions due to timing and distance. After graduation, she and her family moved to Tulsa, Okla., where she met her husband Bill, and they also lived in Chicago. Business drove the couple to Brandon, Miss. (a suburb of Jackon), where they lived for the past 40 years. Ellen sadly reports that Bill passed away four years ago, but she is thankful to live near her daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren and be able to be a part of their active lives and attend their sporting events. Ellen works part-time, plays team tennis and is very active in Relay For Life. She and her family have a summer home in Chautauqua, Ill., near St. Louis, where Bill spent his summers growing up and she enjoys reconnecting with friends and family each year. Ellen writes, “If anyone comes to the ‘Deep South’ or Midwest, give me a call!”

The past 50 years have taken R. James Jones around the world– Asia, Europe, South America, Mexico, Canada and all 50 states. He and his wife Lynn have been married 42 years, raised 3 sons and 2 daughters, and now have eight grandchildren. With a career in the healthcare industry, Jim was involved with three start-up companies and has been running his own business for the past eight years. In anticipation of his class’s 50th Reunion right around the corner, he writes, “Time goes by too fast. I still have wonderful memories of the class of ’63. Some have attended reunions in the past. Many of you have never attended a reunion, including myself. Let’s all come together and enjoy each other’s company and share old memories during the first weekend in October.” He invites anyone interested in helping out with locating members of the class, reunion weekend activities, or collecting photos and developing a reunion booklet to contact Rosie (Gimber) Adamietz, class reunion chair, at radamietz@comcast.net. or contact him at rjjclj@yahoo.com.

Marilyn (Parker) Prota and her husband Neil retired in 1997 from IBM in Bethesda, Md., and moved to Little River, S.C. (outside Myrtle Beach) to enjoy golf and the beach. Marilyn is strongly involved in Blue Star Mothers of America and enjoys scrapping cards. The couple has four grandchildren, whom they call the delight of their lives. She is very much looking forward to the Class of 63’s 50th Reunion in October and writes, “Our journey in this life is getting shorter; we may not pass this way again. It would be wonderful to see our old friends and classmates.”

Jane (Bowles) Young reports that she received an AS degree in veterinary technology in 1996 from Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. “I just love working with animals,” she writes. When she moved to her current home in Lancaster, Pa., she had trouble getting a job and decided to start a pet-sitting business in her home. She has since joined the Pampered Chef family, and lives a relatively busy life in retirement.
